2022 Grand Slam Review – Girls

2022 Grand Slam Review - Girls
Every week, Tennis Analytics dives deep into the data, bringing you a stat of the week to help you understand tennis better and become a little smarter.

For the month of November we will look at data from the 2022 Junior Grand Slams.  For this we have looked at a total of 71,249 points (Boys – 36,106, Girls – 35,143).

2022 Grand Slam Review - Girls
Even more than the boys, the world’s top junior Girls rally data is remarkably similar on the faster hard and grass courts.  On clay though, things are very different on the two opposite ends of the rally length spectrum.
Instead of looking at rally length ranges of 4 shots, a much clearer view is gained from breaking this down even further, into 2 shot segments…
Stat of the Week | 2022 Grand Slam Review - Girls

🎾 1st 2 Shots
On hard and grass, just over 30% of all points ended before any player could hit a 2nd ball.  On clay though, this was 5% lower (25%), attributed to the slower surface muting the impact of the 1st shot.

🎾 7+ Rallies

On clay, there were significantly more longer rallies than on the faster surfaces. And just like the guys, on the red clay of Roland Garros 30% of all rallies were longer than 7 shots (7% higher than the other surfaces)

🎾 Mid-length Rallies

Rallies between 3 and 6 shots averaged 45% on all surfaces.

For all surfaces, rallies of 7 shots or more were only 2% higher for girls than boys

(boys 23%, girls 25%).

Point of the Week
For this year’s junior Grand Slams, 75% or more of all points ended within 6 shots.  This means that each player hits the ball 3x or less.
