2022 US Open Girls – The First 6 Shots

2022 US Open Girls
Every week, Tennis Analytics dives deep into the data, bringing you a stat of the week to help you understand tennis better and become a little smarter.

For the month of October we will look at data from the junior event at the 2022 US Open. For this we have looked at a total of 14,986 points (Boys – 7,337, Girls – 7,649)

If you saw last week’s Stat of Week, you will see an almost identical distribution of rally lengths.

60% of all rallies in the girls’ division were done within 4 shots.  77% of all rallies ended within 6 shots (3 or less touches by each player).

Similar to the guys, in the 5 to 8 range, most points end earlier on (5 to 6 – 17%, 7 to 8 – 10%).

As mentioned last week, it is important in player development to be confident in being able to stay in a rally and outlast your opponent.

But in practice, this should never be done at the expense of the 2 most important shots played – the serve and return.

Unfortunately, in most lessons these are the 2 most neglected shots.
