2022 WTA Finals

Every week, Tennis Analytics dives deep into the data, bringing you a stat of the week to help you understand tennis better and become a little smarter.

Caroline Garcia decimated the field at the elite 2022 WTA Finals.  For her 5 matches, 90% of all points ended within 8 shots.  She won 54% of these.  But, it was her 1st Serve that caused major discomfort to her opponents.  During the event, she served 3 times as many aces as her opponents (25) and won an impressive 71% of all 1st Serve points.
With firepower like this, everything else came easy.  Garcia made less than 2 errors for every winner she hit.  Her opponents on the other hand, made THREE errors to each winner.

Understanding your game strength is very important.  Whether your strength is your serve, return, consistency, movement, or net play (to name but a few), your strategy should be built around this..  Many players make the mistake of first adapting their own game to try and counter perceived strengths of their opponent.  Play to your own strengths first.

On the practice court, work on your weaknesses.
