Stat of the Week | March 2, 2022

Every week, Tennis Analytics dives deep into the data, bringing you a stat of the week to help you understand tennis better and become a little smarter.

Stat of the Week: 70%

Even match losers fare well at the net! Obviously, the match winners do better.

On average, at the 2021 Orange Bowl (G16-18) and Jr. Orange Bowl (G12-14), players won 60% of their net appearances.

As players age up and they become more proficient at the net (technique, size, strength, speed). Their return on investment increases.

The G18’s match winners won 70% of net points.

Point of the Week

As the great Vic Braden once said, in tennis “the party is at the net.”

The single most common flaw that inhibits a player from joining the party is the choice of grip.  Players with extreme western grips and even semi-western grips battle to adjust to low and short balls. So they stand back and miss out on the freebies.
