Dec 07 2022 2022 Grand Slam Review – Girls’ Return Data Every week, Tennis Analytics dives deep into the data, bringing you a stat of the week to help you understand tennis better and become a little smarter. Last week we explored the frequency of Forehand vs Backhand returns for the world’s top junior boys. We found that there were significantly more returns on the BH side, especially in the Ad court. For the girls, the spread is a lot closer. Overall, there are just 4% more backhand returns than forehands (52% vs 48%). Sheer serve power on the boys’ side prohibits the returner from running around backhand returns. This is different on the girls, most notably on the deuce side. Servers on both sides correctly targeted the returner’s backhand side. 🎾 FH Return Errors to Winners – 7.9 🎾 BH Return Errors to Winners – 12.4 Generally, the server should target the returner’s backhand side. The numbers show that a backhand return will result in more errors and fewer winners. On the flip side, spend a bit more time on the practice court working on your backhand return 🙂 Using filters to dissect return of serve CLIck here to see previous stats
