For the month of November we will look at data from the 2022 Junior Grand Slams. For this we have looked at a total of 71,249 points (Boys – 36,106, Girls – 35,143)

The world’s top junior girls win 56% of all serve points, 4% lower than the boys (60%)
Match winners win an average of 10% more serve points than their opponents. This is only 1% lower than for the boys (11%).

Because the Serve and Return are inversely related, the victor is not simply the best server. The quality of the return negatively impacts opponent serve stats.
The advantage though is to the server. They get to set the stage with the choice of:
- Direction
- Pace
- Spin
And, they get 2 opportunities to get the ball in play. The Returner gets just one chance.

Without your own match stats, how do you know if you are improving? As the old saying goes, “If you are not measuring, you are guessing.”
By improving your return, you can directly influence the server’s stats. Improving your return is often much easier than improving your serve.
