Today, we’re busting another myth.
Myth: 7 out of 10 faults are in the net.
Fact: Only 44% of faults are in the net. Most faults are out.
We found this after reviewing data on 2 million points.
The truth is, 56% of all faults go over the net. But most double faults are in the net… right?
The number is actually very similar for both 1st and 2nd serve.
Here is the data for both men and women on both first and second serves.
You can see that the better players tend to miss serves in the net slightly less.
Point of the Week
Keep in mind that not all faults are bad.
It is the percent of serve points won that is important. The so-called “walk of shame” is not picking up a ball served in the net, but rather on the changeover after being broken.
