Every week, Tennis Analytics dives deep into the data, bringing you a stat of the week to help you understand tennis better and become a little smarter.
Stat of the Week: 56%
For the next couple of weeks we will look at some boys 18 data from 2021 Kalamazoo and Orange Bowl, two of the premier events on the calendar. These tournaments are played on different surfaces (Kalamazoo – hard, Orange Bowl – clay). Many players compete at both events.
We considered over 7,300 points for this report and then broke down the stats for match winners vs match losers.
Across all matches, the victor won 56% of all points played. That means they lost more than 4 points for every 10 they played!
First serve percentage for all players was 62% but the match winner won 13-15% more first serve points than their opponents.
Point of the Week
If you attended Craig O’Shannessy’s singles webinar a couple of weeks ago, you heard him talk about the fact that we play a sport where the best player in the world wins just 55% of all points that they play in a season.
Losing points, whether an opponent’s winner or making an error, is inevitable. If a player wins six out of every ten points they play, they will win over 90% of all matches!
