Every week, Tennis Analytics dives deep into the data, bringing you a stat of the week to help you understand tennis better and become a little smarter.
Stat of the Week: 75%
One of the universal truths about our sport is that it is a game of errors. At the highest levels of junior tennis, 75% of all points end in an error by one of the players. This means that for every winner hit, there are three errors.
As expected, the victor generally hits more winners and makes fewer errors. But, the “error gap” is much wider than the “winner gap”.

Point of the Week
If you attended Craig O’Shannessy’s webinar a couple of weeks ago, you would have heard him talk about the fact that we play a sport governed by errors. Our players should expect to make errors, but the goal is to make fewer than your opponent!
Good players make their opponent uncomfortable by using a combination of ball depth, height, pace, spin, and angle to draw errors rather than to hit winners.
