Every week, Tennis Analytics dives deep into the data, bringing you a stat of the week to help you understand tennis better and become a little smarter.
Stat of the Week: 94%
Iga Swiatek dominated the field at the 2022 Roland Garros. Swiatek entered the season at #3, but after a 44-3 record (94% win record), she is pulling away from the pack and building a legacy.
In her last 3 matches in Paris, Iga won 61% of all points played (195 to 123). It was her serve that brought home the trophy. Swiatek made 72% of all 1st Serves and won 71% of these. On second serve, she further humiliated opponents by winning 62% (WTA average below 50%).
And, once the ball was in play, Iga hit almost one winner to every error – an astounding 46% winner to error ratio (70 Winners, 83 Errors).
Point of the Week
To win 61% of points played may not seem like a lot, but it is. The year end number 1 typically finishes having won around 53-55% of points played for the season.
Margins are very small in our sport so anywhere you can improve by one or two percentage points make a big difference.
