Every week, Tennis Analytics dives deep into the data, bringing you a stat of the week to help you understand tennis better and become a little smarter.
For the next two weeks, we will be showing you stats related to power and speed. We have partnered with Edge10 to bring you this data and will be launching a new training program for coaches and players to improve their speed and power by 12% to 21% in 8-weeks. Coming June 1st!
Stat of the Week: 9%
The serve is the most important shot in tennis.
- For the top ATP players, 1 in every 7 first serves made is an ace. 2.5 aces occur for every one double fault.
- For the top WTA players, it’s 1 in 14 – almost double the amount of first serves are needed to generate an ace. Aces and double faults occur at nearly the same rate.

Point of the Week
Good serve technique requires efficient use of the 6 kinetic links. Starting from the ground up, each link “catapults” the next, culminating in explosive racket head speed at point of contact. Inefficient use of the kinetic links will result in loss of power and may contribute to injury.
Much of this power comes from the legs.
Next Friday, we will show you how one tennis academy improved their power and explosiveness by as much as 17.8% for all 17 of their juniors in only 8 weeks!
