Every week, Tennis Analytics dives deep into the data, bringing you a stat of the week to help you understand tennis better and become a little smarter.
For April, we will take a closer look at the winners and errors from over 1,000 ATP and WTA matches from 2021 and 2022, totaling over 156,000 points.
Stat of the Week: 8%
Like the men, match winners on the WTA tour win 8% more points than their opponent.
The process to get there is a little different though.
The top women hit fewer winners, but force more opponent errors than their ATP counterparts. Compared to their opponents, WTA victors hit 2% more winners and make 6% fewer errors.

Point of the Week
We analyze thousands of matches every year – juniors, college, challenger, and professional level. It is extremely rare to see matches where a player makes more winners than errors (positive differential). The “norm” is that the winner makes fewer errors than their opponent.
Match analysis helps players to identify their winner/error profile. Knowing when and how you make errors is the “low hanging fruit” to improve your game.
