Every week, Tennis Analytics dives deep into the data, bringing you a stat of the week to help you understand tennis better and become a little smarter.
Stat of the Week: 14%
For the last two weeks, we have looked at the rally lengths at the B12 and G12 levels. This week, let’s shift to the “bigger” kids.
We’ll analyze the U14’s, looking at differences in winners and errors after the return (from the 3rd shot on).
This is data from 9,464 points (80 matches) during the 2021 Jr Orange Bowl.
For every one winner hit in the B14 division:
- Match winners made 3.8 errors.
- Match losers made 6.4 errors.
All points end in either a winner or an error. When we subtract the victor’s errors from winners, and then compare to the match losers, there is a differential of 14%.
Check back next week to see if the girls 14’s data is any different.
Point of the Week
Tennis is a game of errors. Rather than focusing on increasing the number of winners you hit, it may be better to figure out how to reduce errors.
Knowing where and when you make errors is the first step to improvement. And if you are not measuring, you are guessing.
See our player packages to find out where you make the most errors and start improving your game today!
