For January, in anticipation of the 2021 Australian Open, we have looked at some of the favorites on both men’s and women’s sides to see what separates them from the field. Findings are based on matches that we have charted during 2020.
Stat of the Week: 13%
After completing a hat trick by winning Ostrava, Linz, and Abu Dhabi, Aryna Sabalenka has to be considered a favorite to win the 2021 Australian Open.
We took a look at all her matches at Ostrava and Abu Dhabi to find out where she is making the largest impact against opponents.
- Sabalenka has dominated on her 1st serve, winning 13% more points than her opponent on both 1st serve and return. A devastating gap for her opponents to overcome!
- Overall, she won an incredible 58% of all points played.
- She is also hitting 2 winners for every 3 errors. This is over twice the tour average!
Unfortunately for the 2021 AO field, it does not appear that this is just a lucky streak!
