Every week, Tennis Analytics dives deep into the data, bringing you a stat of the week to help you understand tennis better and become a little smarter.
Stat of the Week: 81%
Nick Kyrgios really shook up the men’s draw at Wimbledon a few days ago by upsetting Stefanos Tsitsipas in R3, 6-7 6-4 6-3 7-6. This was the second time in three weeks that Kyrgios beat the young Greek.
Tsitsipas was clearly rattled by Kyrgios’ gamesmanship, but it was ultimately Kyrgios’s serving that was his undoing. Kyrgios made over seven out of every ten serves, and then won 81% of those points.

With firepower like this (from both players), rallies were really short. 85% of all points were done before each player could hit THREE shots (rally length of 6 or less).

Kyrgios won the important 1 to 4 battle, but lost all of the other rally lengths.
Point of the Week
It is clear that the first serve (percent made + percent won) is the #1 determinant to winning a match. Tracking this stat is important, especially over the course of a few matches since aggregate data is more powerful than viewing matches in isolation.
