Every week, Tennis Analytics dives deep into the data, bringing you a stat of the week to help you understand tennis better and become a little smarter.
Stat of the Week: 97%
In the last 17 years, Rafael Nadal has won 112 matches at Roland Garros and only lost three. That is a win percentage of 97%. The only person who can ever better this stat would be Rafa himself.
By comparison, Roger Federer has a W-L record of 101-13 at Wimbledon (89%).
In his last three matches, the one aspect that stood out among all key performance indicators was returning second serves. He won an incredible 62% of points against his opponents’ second serve. On the other side of the net, his opponents could only muster 48% vs Rafa’s serve.

Point of the Week
Tennis legend Pancho Gonzalez once said, “A player is only as good as his second serve.” But it is the returner that can expose a weak second serve.
Are you measuring this important stat in your own game? Or, are you guessing?
