Every week, Tennis Analytics dives deep into the data, bringing you a stat of the week to help you understand tennis better and become a little smarter.
Stat of the Week: 60%
As discussed in an earlier Stat of the Week, the world’s #1 player wins an average 53% of all points they play during the season. At this year’s French Open, both Nadal and Swiatek shattered this benchmark, each winning 60% of all points played.

This translates to a game win percentage of over 70% for the event. Nadal won 71% of games he played, while Swiatek a whopping 75%.

Even more spectacular is the fact that both Nadal (61%) and Swiatek (63%) won more than six of every ten 2nd serve points.
But it was the Return of 2nd Serve that was the key difference for both players – Swiatek won a remarkable 70% of all opponent’s 2nd serves, while Nadal was impressive at 59%.
Nadal and Swiatek dominated all rally lengths throughout the event, especially the more prevalent shorter rallies.

Point of the Week
We all think that rallies are so much longer on clay than on other surfaces, but the data shows otherwise. Despite the cooler conditions, along with a heavier ball, shorter rallies dominated the event.
- For Swiatek, 86% of all points were over in 8 shots.
- For Nadal, that number was 77%.
Key metrics, like 1st serve win percentage, 2nd serve win percentage, 1 to 4 points won, should be known by every player.
