Since we are in week two of the 2022 US Open, we decided to take a look back at the women’s numbers from last year. In the next few weeks, we will look at this year’s data.
Winners and errors are broken down by the different stroke segments to figure out the respective differentials (winners minus errors).
The greatest variance happens on the return of serve. The fewest winners and most errors are hit on the return than on any other specific rally length. Looking at the return differential of -17% in another way, WTA players make almost 10 return errors to every winner.
This data is based on 16,595 points.
Point of the Week
At the highest levels of the WTA tour, 2.6 errors are hit for every winner. Minimizing errors is easier to accomplish than attempting to hit more winners, especially on the return of serve.
