Every week, Tennis Analytics dives deep into the data, bringing you a stat of the week to help you understand tennis better and become a little smarter.
In December, we are looking at junior data from the 2018 and 2019 Junior Orange Bowl, featuring some of the world’s top young players.
Stat of the Week: 28%
For boys 14’s, just over one in every four 2nd serve points lost is due to a double fault. For boys 12’s the numbers are very similar.
When looking at all 2nd serves hit by these juniors, 15% are missed for a double fault.
Double Faults | Boys 12 | Boys 14 |
% of 2nd Serves | 15% | 15% |
% of 2nd Serve Points Lost | 26% | 28% |
Match winners are not that much better than their opponents. But, their winning percentage is significantly better. We will take a closer look at these numbers next week.

Point of the Week
Good technique enables better execution of strategy.
Especially on the serve, players and coaches need to spend quality time in the formative years (up to age 14) honing technique. Besides enhancing speed, spin, placement, and consistency, good technique will prevent long-term injury.
